The Rink at Rockefeller Center is an ADA-compliant facility. Wheelchair users are welcome to participate on the ice and staff assistance is available if needed. The entrance to The Rink is located just west of 5th Avenue on 50th Streets, through the lobby of 620 5th Avenue and down the elevator to the concourse level.

Only trained and licensed service or guide animals are permitted at The Rink at Rockefeller Center. They are not allowed on the ice.

We offer penguin skate aids for a fee for young people that need an object to lean on to learn how to skate. They are a per person rental only offered to children 12 and younger and under 4 feet tall. The child using the aid will be given an additional sticker to be worn so that the rink staff can identify that it has been paid for and that the person has been approved to use it.

We offer skate sharpening service for $20 per pair of skates on a first come first serve basis. Guests looking to have their skates sharpened should arrive 20 minutes before their ticket time and let the staff know they’d like to have their skates sharpened so they’ll be let down with adequate time for the sharpening. Sharpening takes anywhere between 10-15 minutes (on average depending on the conditions of the skates) from the time the skate sharpening process has started. All sharpening MUST be completed BEFORE skating on the ice.

Legend has it that the idea for The Rink was inspired by a Depression-era skate salesman who demonstrated his product by skating on the frozen water of the Rockefeller Center fountain. However the idea came about, The Rink was the perfect fit for the sunken plaza, which was struggling to attract shoppers as the entrance to the high-end retailers in the underground concourse. The Rink, or “skating pond” as it was first known, officially opened on Christmas Day 1936. Originally planned as a temporary exhibit, The Rink was so popular it became a permanent addition, with the Prometheus Statue and the Christmas Tree providing one of the most familiar backdrops in the world.
