Lovers of DIY—and anyone in search of a new place for cards and gifts—can rejoice with the opening of Paper Source at Rockefeller Center. On the Concourse level (in the former space of Hallmark), the pleasing shop fills more than 4,000 square feet with artful wrapping papers, crafting sets, books and party decorations, plus walls of hip greeting cards.
Some of the items that might catch your eye include kits for making paper flowers, cupcake paper garlands and "paint-by-sticker" art. There are vibrantly printed pouches, pillows and tea towels, plus marbled balloons, stamping supplies and wine accessories. Some of the goodies pack plenty of kid appeal, like Styrograph sets and race car kits.
The friendly staffers know their stuff when it comes to everything paper, so feel free to ask their advice. And with Mother's Day coming up Sunday, it's the perfect time to stop in and pick up a gift—the store makes it easy with tables devoted to Mom—or just a beautiful finishing touch.
Paper Source is near Sixth Avenue, between 49th and 50th Streets, downstairs in the Concourse (right at the entrance to the subway station). It's open weekdays from 8am-7pm, Saturdays 10am-7pm and Sundays noon-6pm.
