June is full of things to see and do at Rockefeller Center. Here's what's in store:
Next Wednesday, June 15, the New York Spectacular Starring the Radio City Rockettes makes its debut, showcasing a modern, high-tech new production by director and choreographer Mia Michaels (So You Think You Can Dance). Get in on the excitement using the discount code RCNY25 to save on select performances and seats. The show runs through August 7, and package tickets that include lunch or dinner at the Rock Center Café are also available.
Coming up in the Today show concert series, Nick Jonas brings the heat (and the "Bacon") on Friday, June 10, Howard Jones cracks into the '80s on June 16, and pop phenom Charlie Puth works the crowd June 17. The month closes out with superstars Meghan Trainor June 21, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis June 23 and Steven Tyler June 24. The early-morning concerts take place outside the Today studio on 48th Street between Fifth and Sixth Avenues, and arriving by 5am is your best bet.
Sunday brunch is going strong at the Rainbow Room in June—read more about the extravagant meal here. The Avalon Jazz Band plays this Sunday, June 12, while Baby Soda takes the stage for Father's Day next weekend, and Mary Alouette & the Crew perform June 26.
Elsewhere at the Rock, special dinner events stir up a Mediterranean mood. June 21, the Rock Center Café hosts a Sardinian dinner that highlights both seafood and inland specialties of the island, along with Italian wines. Then on June 24, The Sea Grill celebrates with a Spanish wine dinner, pairing each course with a vintage by Bodegas Muga winery. The evening begins with hors d'oeuvres and Rioja, leading into dishes such as ceviche, seared cuttlefish and roasted Kurobuta pork belly, and finishes with a frozen chocolate sabayon.
On the Plaza, we're already seeing sidewalk cafes come alive, but June 10 is when Limani opens its outdoor seating for the summer and Brasserie Ruhlmann brings back its seasonal LT Biergarten, serving classic German food and brews. Meanwhile the new "Sunsation" display is up at the Channel Gardens, planted with cacti and succulents to bring a bit of the Southwest to Midtown. After a walk past the desert landscape, you might welcome a dunk at Van Gogh's Ear, the playful pool-like sculpture on view through July 6.
For more art, check out an eye-opening tour of Rockefeller Center, which gives you the inside scoop on both the famous and lesser-known pieces that distinguish the complex. Also be sure to visit the public viewing hours for upcoming auctions at Christie's, where the Private Collection of Joan Rivers (on view June 17-21) is sure to keep both collectors and fans of the late, great comedian on their toes during the live sale June 22.
