When it comes to American luxury, few have come close to what Coach has accomplished since it was founded in New York 80 years ago. From revolutionizing leather goods to leading trends like logomania and small shoulder bags, Coach has held firmly to its position at the forefront of culture and style. Under the tutelage of its current creative director, Stuart Vevers, the brand has also become synonymous with the holidays; its immaculately crafted leather treasures with monogram and holiday motif stamps make the perfect presents and stocking stuffers.
This year, the Coach holiday story continues at Rockefeller Center, a place with a deep connection to the New York holiday experience. So it only makes sense these two symbols of New York traditions come together to create a one-of-a-kind winter wonderland.
What does this winter wonderland have to offer? As part of the partnership, you’ll find the Coach Holiday Truck on the North Esplanade at Rockefeller Center, where visitors will be able to purchase gifts or something special for themselves. In addition to the Coach Holiday Truck, the brand brings its knack for storytelling to The Rink, resulting in Après Skate at Rockefeller Center, presented by Coach. Inspired by the brand’s Coach SKI winter collection, the experience features drinks and sweet bites from Hombre Taco, reminiscent of charming ski chalets; it sets the perfect scene for getting cozy after enjoying a turn around the ice. The Coach Holiday Truck, running through December 31, and the Après Skate at Rockefeller Center, presented by Coach, which remains through January 31, 2022, mark the beginning of a multi-year partnership between Rockefeller Center and Coach.
Below, Leigh Manheim, Coach North America’s SVP of Retail & Outlet, discusses how this pairing came to life, the historic similarities between these two New York icons, and what visitors can expect to see from this partnership in the future.
Why did Coach and Rockefeller Center choose to collaborate together on this winter partnership?
Coach was founded in New York… and we are continuously inspired by and celebrate our hometown. Rockefeller Center is a New York icon, especially during the holidays – it’s one of those places where you can feel the magic and spirit of possibility. It felt natural for us to partner on an experience that we hope will bring joy to many this holiday season.
These are two iconic New York institutions, how did that and the influence of the city during the holidays impact the project?
Coach and Rockefeller Center both have a heritage that is deeply rooted in New York, and we wanted to celebrate our authentic connection as well as the optimism, joy, and sense of community the holidays bring.
The Rink at Rockefeller Center is a storied New York tradition. What was the process like of taking Coach’s winter collection and creating the Après Skate experience in this historic space?
The winter collection, Coach SKI, is inspired by winter adventures and reimagines winter sportswear. We played with the nostalgic ski inspiration to create a twist on a vintage ski lodge for Après Skate chalets. Like the collection, they are bold and colorful and provide a cozy place to relax overlooking The Rink.
What can visitors expect to find at the Coach Holiday Truck this year?
The Coach Holiday Truck has been decked out in bold colors and nostalgic graphic patches from the Coach SKI collection. Pieces from the collection will be available for purchase… and customers who want to shop the full Coach SKI collection can visit our Coach House store on 5th Ave, where they will find more festive fun with our holiday pop-up café serving treats on weekends.
This is a multi-year collaboration — can you give any hints as to what we can expect for the next two years?
We will be back at The Rink, but do not want to give surprises away — so stay tuned! We are looking forward to continuing the partnership and celebrating the holidays with Rockefeller Center again next year.
The Coach Holiday Truck can be found on the North Esplanade, and Après Skate at Rockefeller Center, presented by Coach is on the South Esplanade and open to the public on a first-come, first-served basis.
