What to Do in New York City in September 2024
There are very clear markers that fall has arrived in New York City: the air dips to a comfortable temperature, pumpkin spice reappears on coffee shop menus, and New York Fashion Week fills the city with palpable energy. For seven days, there’s an electricity you can feel through the streets as packs of editors, influencers, and fashion devotees bring unique style to the forefront, and America’s most talented designers show us their visions for the season ahead.
This season, the spring/summer 2025 collections received a new platform for even more sartorial supporters to take in everything NYFW had to offer: Rockefeller Center, in partnership with the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA), hosted a series of live-streamed fashion shows at The Rink. The first-ever joint effort established Rockefeller Center as the season’s go-to destination and a hub for the public to view NYFW shows.
Rockefeller Center also welcomed a few designers to present their new collections in its hallowed spaces — namely, Todd Snyder (at Le Rock restaurant) and Luar (on Center Plaza), presenting two of the week’s buzziest shows. Ribbon Cutting
To kick off Rockefeller Center’s new partnership with CFDA, luminaries from fashion to music gathered to cut the ribbon on the streaming hub at The Rink. Vogue’s Anna Wintour, CFDA’s Chairman Thom Browne, and CEO Steven Kolb were joined alongside members Tory Burch, Wes Gordon, Sergio Hudson, Michael Kors, and Todd Snyder, as well as musical artists Offset, Doechii, and Bad Gyal. The partnership is the first of its kind, bringing the excitement of NYFW to Rockefeller Center patrons to enjoy for free.
Screenings at The Rink
The partnership between Rockefeller Center and CFDA to stream the shows from NYFW was presented on a large-scale screen outfitted with a model-ready runway at the iconic Rink. Having collections shown in this format for the public is the first time there’s been a centralized hub for NYFW content, physical or digital. Participating designers and brands included Jason Wu, Carolina Herrera, Tory Burch, Coach, Michael Kors, Collina Strada, and Ulla Johnson.
Todd Snyder
Making his big return to NYFW, showing for the first time in five years, Todd Snyder went the salon-style route in Rockefeller Center’s Le Rock restaurant. Models traipsed through the lavish art deco settings, showing the designer’s signature Americana silhouettes. The decision to show at the French locale was intentional, as the inspiration for the collection was Villa America, the iconic French Riviera home of American expats from the early 20th century.

Luar
Fashion world darling and superstar designer Raul Lopez delivered another signature showstopping collection for his label Luar, set this season on Center Plaza. The Dominican American’s offering for spring 2025 fused his heritage with the New York punk spirit he grew up idolizing and emulating in his adolescence and early adulthood, with inspiration coming from CBGB and The New York Dolls. One of the hallmarks of a Luar show is the starry guest list, which, this season, included Madonna and Ice Spice perched side-by-side in the front row.
